A USI is your lifelong education number – you only need to create it once. If you have undertaken any VET training since 2015, you may already have a USI. You can find it here.

Applying for USI is easy and free, just click on the link  http://portal.usi.gov.au/student and follow the six steps:

STEP 1: Get at least one form of ID ready, eg your driver’s license, Australian passport, Medicare card, birth certificate, visa (for non-Australian passport), Immigration Card or Citizenship Certificate.
STEP 2: Have your personal contact details ready; you’ll need address, email and/or phone number.
STEP 3: Visit usi.gov.au- external site and select Create a USI.
STEP 4: Agree to the terms and conditions and follow the steps on screen.
STEP 5: Write your new USI number down and keep it somewhere safe.
STEP 6: Have your USI number with you when you enrol

If you have undertaken any VET training since 2015, you may already have a USI. Click here to find your USI

If you tried making a USI but it says my email address is already in use, you can use other options to recover your USI such as mobile number and valid ID.

If, for example, you are attending the facilitated classes and you have completed the relevant activities, you will still need to allow the following suggested time to complete the qualification.

4 hours a week  – 18 months
